Biological Control | |||||
How should the container be handled when it is received?
Describe the proper procedure for receiving and preparing for the inoculative release.
Upon arrival in recipient country |
Upon arrival in the recipient country, bring the container into a quarantine
room. The entrance to the room is through two doors, between which is
a small chamber containing a light trap to catch any escaping insects.
Enclose the room so that no insect can escape. Seal the windows of the
room and control temperature and humidity. When the room is secure, open
the container.
Carefully screen and multiply the imported natural enemies in quarantine laboratory cages. Bring them to the field for release after making sure that no harmful organism may be released along with them. |
||||
Releasing in the field |
Allow a minimal number of natural enemies to be released for successful
establishment. This number varies with the species.
Usually, several releases can be made in different places at different
times. Subsequently conduct regular surveys to find out if the released
natural enemy has become established.
