What is post production management?

Post production management is about how to handle and process the crop (rice) from the time it is harvested until it is sold at market.

The different operations in the post production system

The post production processes are many operations from "cutting the crop" to "marketing the milled rice". The post production system ends with stored grain that is ready to be sold on the market.

Why is post production management important?

Loss of quality

When the crop reaches maturity the grains begin to deteriorate. This means that the quality of the grains decreases. How fast this deterioration happens depends on how the grain is managed. Every operation in the post harvest process is important and needs to be done with care.

Physical loss

In addition, during the post production processes, grain is lost through spillage and pests.

Good post production processes reduce both the qualitative loss and the physical loss.

It is normal to lose 5 to 10% of the value of the grain during the post production operations. But if you have poor post production management up to 50% of the value of the crop can be lost after harvest.
